  • Sabayon: grub recovery.

Two weeks ago i installed Windows 7 Beta to see why peoples have so many good words but, with this install i lost grub and i wasn’t able too boot in Linux until now.

Not that the grub recovery is hard but i didn’t have time until today.

Grub recovery is easy. Only a few steps to follow.

Use any Linux live distribution which have grub installed and run in command prompt:

    sudo grub

    At grub prompt run:

    grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
    grub> root (hdX,Y)
    grub> setup (hd0)
    grub> quit

Replace X,Y with the values found after “find” command.
    Reboot.

If “find /boot/grub/stage1” fails with “Error 15: File not found” try “find /grub/stage1

    This should be all.

    1. I was hesitant to try Windows 7 because of grub, so I put it in virtual box and it sucked. Seeing how resilient grub is gives me the confidence to finally try installing native.

    2. Yes, restoring grub is easy.
Try to see if you get the correct values before installing Windows 7.

For me Windows 7 is faster than Vista :)
